RE: End of another season.....most memorable experience.....

For us this year it was a week and a half tour of the state parks in N.E. Texas and S.E. Okla. Taught my oldest 2 boys to fly fish and kayaked with the 3 oldest. Great hikes with the whole crew. Also visited a few Walmarts that made us feel real good about ourselves :W

RE: Did you buy the right TT???

Yes and No. We bought what we could tow and what we could pay cash for the first time and we thought it was great until we got a much needed bigger tow vehicle and were able to afford more trailer. Now we have the perfect trailer for us. But even if we still had the old trailer - it would be way better than not having a trailer at all.

RE: Newbie : Rainer (Dutchmen) - Leveling and Temp Control?

Welcome to the Forum! Can't help you on the heating question as I'm not familiar with the setup you are using. However, on levelling, most folks use either wood planks or the orange lego type blocks (my personal choice) to level from side to side. Basically, this is done by figuring out which side needs to be moved up and placing the number of planks or blocks in front (or behind) the wheels to be raised and then pull (or back) the wheels onto them. For front to back leveling - simply raise or lower the tongue jack. You can either use a carpenter's level to see what needs to be raised or lowered, or you can mount levels on the outside of the trailer so you can check level quickly. I usually try to get within an inch of level in either direction and that generally feels level once inside.

RE: best camping memories

Just got back from a trip to the first place I ever camped as a kid about 35 years ago - Bastrop State Park. Beautiful place. I remember running around and meeting new friends. Another favorite was at Garner State Park. We had borrowed my in-laws 40 foot Class A coach to go on a trip with our Sunday School class. They were all sleeping under canvas and made fun of us that night for being sissies for using the coach. Then it poured down rain that night. Next morning, some of them admitted that they wanted to come knock on our door and ask to sleep on the floor.

RE: Gas Mileage with Jayco Soprt 199

Everything I've read doesn't bode well for better mileage for you. We went longer and heavier and our mileage stayed the same. The only time I notice it being any worse is when we have significant winds. The "sail" theory holds true for me.

RE: Freak accident

Wow. That is a tragedy, but a bigger one was avoided, so we can at least be thankful for that. Thanks for posting the pics - words couldn't accurately describe that accident.

RE: Port Aransas Texas campgrounds??

Just got back from Pioneer RV Resort. Nice facilities and convenient to the beach, but they don't have many rules and they don't enforce the ones they do have. If you don't have a golf cart, be prepared to have to dodge all of the carts going over the boardwalk to the beach - it is only wide enough for one cart and lots of people there have them. My son was almost hit by a kid driving one and not watching where he was going. Quiet hours are not observed and security was basically nonexistent. It wasn't all bad though and if they had a second boardwalk for pedestrians, it would be a whole lot safer.

RE: backing up over a curb

Here are some curb ramps that are made for getting RVs up curbs.

RE: Let My Neighbor Borrow/Rent My TT?

Highcover: You're the kind of neighbor I wish I had and frankly, the kind I wish I were more like. My personal thought is that you suggest to your neighbor that he rent a trailer and y'all go on a short trip together. I've really found that trailering with friends is a blast. You can help your neighbor by basically going through a PDI type run with him at the trailer park while y'all are there, and showing him how much fun trailering can be. He'll probably end up wanting one himself.

RE: How do they pump out the black tank onsite??

When I was married to my ex years ago we went visit my parents at a campground that where staying at. My mom had to go somewhere and said the honey wagon is coming the money is on the table. I said ok Sharon gets up and goes to the car and comes back with her purse I asked what are you doing? she said she wanted some honey too I said ok.:B you should have her face when this tractor pulling a big tank that said HONEY on it pulls up and she says to the driver I thought it would be jars already the driver looks at me I told him she's expecting honey. He shakes his head and hooks up to my moms camper then she knew what was up by the smell. Of course by now I'm laughing so hard it hurt. yep it was cold ride home :B Now that right there is funny! I don't care who you are. That's one of the best stories I've heard in a long time. Absolutely hilarious.

RE: new meaning for protable toilets

Wow - there's no other race in which it is quite as important to be in the lead at ALL times. The exhaust on those things is bad news.

RE: Curved Shower Curtain Rod?

Why not buy the RV tracks that attach to the ceiling that hold curtains? They make them in curved sections also, seem it would be a whole lot easier.:B They tracks can be purchased at any RV dealerships parts dept. This is the kind mine came with. Works great and the curtain is clear at the top 6 inches or so to let in light. Also - without the actual rod there, it's one less thing to bang my head on. Stupid short trailer door gets me every time.

RE: decals

Sign shops can custom make these - like a Signs Now franchise. A friend of mine owns one and they wrap cars in logos all the time.

RE: Are Jaycos' Good Trailers?

I own a Jayflight 28BHS and it is my second trailer. I am very pleased with it. I would call it a good value for an "entry level trailer." Perhaps this is what your friend meant by "low end." I was drawn to Jayco mainly by many posts on this forum and I scoured the forum for such posts. The only consistent complaint about Jaycos I have seen on here has to do with under-sink leaks. These didn't end up being big deals either from the posts I read. Not that there haven't been other complaints, but this is the only consistent one I can recall. I have not had such a leak, but I keep an eye out for it. All trailers have problems. They are houses in a perpetual earthquake when they are being towed. Just keep up the preventative maintenance on your Jayco and you should be very happy with it. I know I've been happy with mine.

RE: Help for a newbie please!

Count mine as yet another vote for the slide. Had one without it, but got one with it. Can't imagine ever going back willingly.

RE: gas mileage?

I get 10-11 at 60mph with my 1/2 ton 2004 Burb towing our 31' trailer. This is mostly in the Texas Hill Country and on flats.

RE: ....You May Have a Small Trailer

You might have a small trailer if you never realized B2B means business to business because you always thought it meant butt to butt.

Congratulations! We have a Jayflight 28BHS as well and absolutely love it. Hope you have as much fun with yours as we do with ours.

RE: Problem with swaying

John, at a minimum you should add a 2nd sway controller. It is way cheaper than losing a trailer and tow vehicle. I have a 31 foot trailer and started off with a single sway control. I have since bought an Equal-i-zer and I assure you that it was well worth the investment. Also consider how you have your trailer loaded. You have to make sure you have enough weight on the tongue. Too much weight in the back will cause nothing but problems.
